The Scene
An obscure location on the back edge of an Atlanta Road strip mall provides an unfavorable first impression of this popular Smyrna steakhouse. Inside, though, Blackstone is at once upscale and easygoing. The restaurant blends familiar power steakhouse motifs--dark wood, deep booths, a large bar--with low-key atmosphere and easygoing service. It works just as well for a quiet, romantic evening as it does for a gentleman's meat-and-martini outing.
The Food
Blackstone won't win any points for novelty, but it does do steakhouse basics very well. So start simple, and follow the theme. Shrimp cocktail, a blue-cheese iceberg wedge and a standout crab cake are all eyebrow-raisingly good. After that, the usual steakhouse suspects--filets, strips and ribeyes--come nicely roasted and perfectly seasoned. Even scallops heavily dosed with curry butter sauce are memorably fresh and rich.
