In Short
While Atlanta seems to be overrun with upscale, northern-Italian eateries, Valenza holds its own with classy dishes and a disarming, non-pretentious wait staff. The wood-beamed, rustic dining room is sectioned into small nooks for an expected charming vibe, while not skimping on the Brookhaven essentials such as white linens and fresh silverware each course. The calamari appetizer is grilled rather than fried--the normal rubbery consistency softened to an almost buttery texture--and a smattering of pine nuts proides a nice crunchy balance. The velvety butternut squash ravioli is the melt-in-your-mouth-highlight of the menu, and for a split second gives you the idea that maybe these vegetarian folks are on to something. All dishes are served a la carte which makes sharing the trendy and easy option, which isn't a bad idea considering the moderately-expensive price tag. It won't give Sotto Sotto a run for their money, but certainly is a worthy neighborhood addition.
