The Scene
Like countless other Atlanta restaurants, Phuket is huddled into a strip shopping center. One of the city's oldest Thai restaurants, its decor wavers between serene and kitschy and is comfortable in a pleasant, if not memorable, way. Dark jewel tones are used for the upholstery and linens, bamboo accents abound, and tall, leafy plants divide the dining room, buffering the din. Service is quick and efficient.

The Food
Flavors dance in a few dishes. Skip bland dumplings and instead try the yum yai, a cucumber, lettuce and carrot salad featuring shrimp, chicken, crushed peanuts and a bracing sweet-and-tart lime dressing. Kieo wan is a winning combination of green curry, chicken, green beans, peppers, onions, eggplant and bamboo shoots accented with basil. Pla jian is a boneless filet of sea bass that is lightly battered, fried and then dressed with a ginger-spiked sauce--it's good, but less rewarding than whole-fish versions.
