The Scene
Tucked into a Brookhaven mixed-used project, this small restaurant crackles with energy. The main room is filled with a boisterous local crowd and a small bar often packed with folks waiting for tables. A partially open kitchen, bold paintings and an impressive wine library add to the ambience. In warm weather, the action flows onto the patio. Polished servers expertly maneuver both the tightly packed space and the menu.
The Food
Haven has fast become the place to eat in Brookhaven, and the kitchen, which updates the menu seasonally, reflects this comfortable neighborhood bistro sensibility. Menu gems are perfect-for-sharing small plates--two highlights being light lemony clam strips and an addictive mushroom carpaccio, delicate slices of mushrooms marinated in a mild vinaigrette. Entrees, including delicate red snapper in a tomato-ginger broth and a honey-glazed rib-eye are acceptable, but flavors are bit too muted and overpowered by the dynamic surroundings.
