The Scene
Luxury reminiscent of New York's Union Station reigns at this neighbor to Perimeter Mall. Mirrors extend space into infinity; stained glass gives off a soft glow. Art and music selections are uneven--imitation Dutch masters hang beside spare modernism, and Nat King Cole plays after the Indigo Girls. The service is rock steady and pleasant, it's some of the most attentive in Atlanta.
The Food
Chequers makes the biggest splash with French and American approaches to fresh fish; its Asian inspirations are less successful. Lump crab cakes are massive and meaty, bound by only the barest of breadcrumb fillers. Chilean sea bass is accompanied by a buerre blanc sauce that hits the perfect acid note. But seared yellowfin tuna, meant to be rare, is overcooked. The plain-Jane dessert tray offers standards like creme brule and marble cheesecake.
