The Scene
Buckhead soccer families, end-of-day professionals and longtime locals park their SUVs at Taxco for legendary cheese dip and swimming pool-sized margaritas. Service can be curt, but the tone runs to brisk rather than rude. The cave-like wood-paneled interior is dark, and noise levels can approach deafening. Unless it's winter, park it on the patio.
The Food
Extra touches, like chicken stewed with onions and tomatoes, make burritos and corn-tortilla enchiladas better than average. Made-to-order house specialties also transcend the tired standards; try chile colorado and chipotle-spiked chicken with potatoes. Shrimp a la diavola is especially addictive: Grilled shrimp and onions wrapped in tortillas with guacamole leave you wanting more, even as the spicey heat grows atomic. Order that second margarita just to cool off. Chips and salsa are fantastic, but don't skip the cheese dip. It's among the best in town.
