The Scene
You'll feel a boisterous energy the moment you step inside this elegantly rehabbed house. The dining rooms, which are separated by a fireplace, feature earth-toned walls, ceiling fans and indigenous artwork and tapestries. The smoky bar has celery-colored walls hung with tableaus over linen-dressed tables. Service is friendly and playful, yet professional.
The Food
Dishes here are packed with intriguing flavors. Tender squid comes in peri-peri sauce, which is both piquant and sweet--and very addictive. Bobotie spring rolls feature sweetened ground beef in a fried wrapper, served with fruit chutney. That same chutney, along with flaked coconut, sliced bananas and sambals--a South African salsa of tomatoes and onion--enliven Durban chicken curry. Beware: Filet au poivre with its creamy sauce might not leave you room for Diane's Delight, a buttery sponge cake served warm with ice cream.
