The Scene
Surrounded by the gardens of the Atlanta History Center, this revered tearoom is tradition heaven. Well-coifed ladies leisurely lunch while swapping stories about their grandchildren. Large stencil-style flowers adorn the bright white walls. Service is brisk, friendly and sweet, as befits a tearoom ambience.
The Food
Swan's menu hasn't changed in years, and heaven forbid it ever should. Savor the tradition and order a mint julep served in its signature frosty silver cup. The most popular dish is the chicken salad-filled pastry timbales, which come with a creamy frozen fruit salad and the famous rich cheddar cheese straws. Pan-fried salmon cakes are a good warm alternative, even though the Dijon dill sauce is bereft of the taste of dill. The French Silk Swan, a not-too-chocolaty mousse surrounded by Chantilly cream and perched on a meringue base, makes for a Victorian finish.
