The Scene
A barely lit, spartan haven of black-and-gold chic, Circle Sushi transcends its suburban strip locale. Four booths dominate the center of the large room, while intimate tables rim the periphery. Minimalism extends to the wait staff. A seat at the small sushi bar in the back leads to especially slow service but a good look at the quality of the fish.
The Food
Choose carefully from this menu of inconsistent Japanese dishes. Starters tend to please, whether traditional--seaweed salad and miso soup--or adventurous, such as the slightly spicy tuna kimchee salad. Circle Sushi's real draw are its many rolls, in combinations perfect for those who like their fish cooked or smothered by other flavors. Americanized amalgams like the ''volcano,'' ''dynamite'' and ''Japanese bagel'' litter the menu.
