The Scene
A seductively dark bar leads to the expansive dining room, a hip mix of yesteryear architecture and droll postmodern art. Ornate wall moldings share the spotlight with bejeweled canine sculptures and colorful canvases. The infamous chandelier is an aquatic phantasmagoria whose interpretation is best left to the imagination of grown folks. Smartly attired servers are professional and warm; even the valet is friendly. The flashy crowd tends to get noisy at peak hours.
The Food
Chef Gerry Klaskala takes his luxurious New American menu in two distinct directions: ''slow foods'' include fork-tender braised short ribs or pork with spinach and Gorgonzola polenta, while seasonal offerings include enormous soft-shell crabs spiked with dill and delicate fish with direct-from-the-garden vegetables. Salads are fresh and artfully composed, while lobster cocktail with pureed broccoli and truffled mashed potatoes is unabashed decadence. Desserts are mandatory. Try toasted lemon pound cake with vanilla-roasted plums or just-baked chocolate-swirled cheesecake.
