The Scene
Unobtrusively chic Midcity Cafe combines the neighborhood friendliness of ''Cheers'' with the uptown verve of Manhattan. The lunch crowd consists mostly of young professionals seeking refuge from the usual fast-food drudgery. The after-work crowd is more vivacious; the bartenders' generous pouring skills make it easy to turn a happy hour into a good night. Strategic location makes this compact cafe an ideal pre-destination, but its scarcity of space precludes large gatherings.
The Draw
Coffee enthusiasts will be pleased to find much of the drink menu revolves around premium Lavazza beans, infusing ordinary java with full-bodied flavor and chocolaty undertones. For party animals who need a pick-me-up, skip the tired Red Bull and vodka and reach for the one-two punch of the signature Espresso Martini. Hip sandwicherie Pangaea caters the light but inviting Pan-Asian fare. While the sandwiches are a standout favorite, don't miss the delectable array of desserts.
