The Scene
Packed on a Friday night, the Red Snapper rocks with a mix of older folks, Heretic regulars and couples out on jittery first dates. A maroon color scheme gives the place a seedy back room feel with front-room, tuxedo-clad table service. Regulars rule here--if the bartender doesn't start mixing your drink when you walk in the door, you're in the minority.
The Food
Dishes at the Red Snapper are more for sauce lovers than for fish lovers. Cream-based sauces in particular exert broad control over the menu, appearing in everything from the baked stuffed flounder to the snapper gourmet. Asian-influenced dishes, a promising alternative, wind up being an awkward combination of sweet-and-sour Chinese takeout flavor and French food heaviness. Desserts, amaretto cheesecake and a delicate Apple Napoleon among them, are often best the dinner fare.
