The Scene
This easygoing Juniper Street hangout sits in a converted bungalow, but the elevated brick patio with its tiki torches more than steals the show. A good Midtown mix of gay and straight, slacker and professional mingles comfortably in the casual atmosphere. Activities range from trivia or live music to simply visiting with neighbors at the next table.
The Food
The menu isn't nearly the draw that the atmosphere is, but it's decent bar chow, nonetheless. Burgers are big; best bets include one with mushrooms and Swiss cheese and the Border burger, which comes with guacamole, salsa and cotija cheese. Joe's veggie burger, another solid option, comes loaded with guacamole and sour cream. Fries are crispy and spicy, but crisp green beans or broccoli can be substituted. Wash it all down with one of Joe's specialty cocktails, wine from an extensive list, or even a retro root beer float.
