The Scene
Shadowy hearth light, heavily lacquered plank tables, Italian liqueur posters and plenty of Gypsy Kings tunes make this cozy Midtown trattoria an instant romantic hit. A long bar runs down the side of the dining room, and tables are comfortably arranged along the length of the room. French doors open onto a small patio that is set up along Third Street.

The Food
Simple flavors and restrained culinary associations rule the day at this modest trattoria. To play it safe, stick to the pizzas. Veal scallopine is competently prepared, but potato-leek soup is watery. The dried porcini mushrooms in one pasta dish are only marginally resuscitated. Pizzas--especially the tasty rucola e prosciutto and the quattro formaggio--are the real winners here. Prepared in a beehive brick oven in the dining room they make a perfect entree on their own or with a salad. Go with a crowd so you can try several.
