The Scene
Petite Auberge's French-country design is in high contrast to the surrounding strip-mall landscape. The formal dining room is bathed in a golden light, with curling chandeliers, white-clothed tables and black-leather booths. Regulars rely on solid service from this family business.
The Food
Classic French and German comfort food is the staple of this old-school eatery. Expect standards like escargot, coq au vin and filet mignon, as well as Bavarian favorites like Wiener schnitzel, bratwurst and roast pork on sauerkraut. Count on hearty homemade pâté and bouillabaisse, and beefy onion soup. Mussels in a lovely white-wine broth are a seasonal special. Tender pepper steak and dry-smoked pork chop, both he-man cuts, come with creamy scalloped new potatoes. Desserts do not disappoint: Warm crepes filled with hazelnut chocolate cream are a marvel, and the Black Forest cake tastes like heaven.
