In Short
A glowing orange neon sign boldly displays Thaicoon's location in a decades-old Kroger strip mall off Briarcliff Road. The interior feels like a mediocre suburban chain and menus are delivered with plastic inserts showing pictures of the sushi selection. With everything it has going against it, Thaicoon's kitchen simply forgot that's it's supposed to be bad. Service is sharp and to the point. The sushi is affordable, and while not up to MF's standard, is certainly in the same ballpark as the ever-popular Harry and Son's. Serving both Japanese and Thai foods is usually a bad sign, but Thaicoon's Pad Thai is just as good as the Japanese cucumber salad counterpart. On Sundays the restaurant goes old-school with a real-deal, non-Americanized menu, driving those of Thai decent to flock to this little spot. It's not much o look at, but it excels in what counts.
