The Scene
This small but comfortable restaurant is Old Brooklyn in its ambiance, with ceiling fans, heavily framed ''old masters-style'' art, and operatic arias filling the air. It's a locals' favorite: Young couples hold hands across the tables, neighbors converse over pasta, and folks savor the dining values. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and able to guide patrons toward the better dishes.
The Food
Everything comes swimming in sauce. Stuffed manicotti vanishes under a blanket of fairly average marinara. Flounder francese tastes fresh despite having been frozen, and remains crisp in its pool of lemon-cream butter sauce. Veal Marsala is loaded with flavorful mushrooms, but the dish gets lost in an excess of cream sauce overpowered with Marsala. Skip the over-breaded clams oreganata in favor of the very good crispy calamari served with--what else--tomato sauce. For dessert, don't miss the cannoli.
