The Scene
Perched along a junky stretch of Kennedy Boulevard, Cafe con Trey is virtually invisible?unless you're there around breakfast time. Then, a line of cars snakes away from the take-out window, the parking lot is littered with vehicles all crazily jammed together in a mish-mash, with people carrying big cups of Cuban coffee and dodging traffic.
The Food
It's one of the few places in Tampa where you can get a decent cup of Cuban coffee to go, and the smart diners turn up early. Inside, it's hardly more than a counter and a few bare tables, but the food is terrific. The menu has cafe con leche (Cuban coffee with steamed milk) and Cuban toast, omelets, egg sandwiches and side orders like grits, potatoes or meat. You can order lunchy items like black beans and yellow rice, roast pork or burgers.
