The Scene
Picture the Hillsborough River at sunset: The drone of boats on glassy water, the sun's fiery pink demise and the concomitant slow procession of purple shadows up the city's skyscrapers. Now picture the Ashley Street Grille: understated beige interior gently lit with wall-to-ceiling windows, clean lines and modern feel, a chatty crowd relaxed amid elegant vases of fresh roses.
The Food
Sophisticated continental, but modern and surprising. Try the sauced, slightly hot Szechuan duck, perched daintily upon a bed of rice and decorated with crisp veggies. The salads are creative and crisp; the burgers huge and loaded with bacon, and the desserts perfect. Big plus: They do breakfast, too.
