The Scene
A clean, spare interior reveals a bustling open kitchen and racks of just-from-the-oven loaves. A butcher-block ''tasting bar'' is stacked with loaves and ramekins of butter and jam. Slather some butter on that sample of warm cheddar-garlic bread and get a preview of Keri Eisenbeis and Michael Matthews' ''rising'' stars. The bakery is hip, lively and fun; an easy place to blow (and eat) a lot of dough. Employees are earnest and enthusiastic.
The Food
Most of the breads don't need a lot of condiments or fussy spreads. There's the seasonal white-chocolate-cherry swirl bread in time for a sweet Valentine's Day; an addictive spinach-feta round that eats like a meal; and a simple nine-grain loaf packed with seeds, nuts and other wholesome goodies. In addition to breads, every day you can try a different array of sweet baked goods, from pumpkin muffins to berry-cream cheese scones and incredible double chocolate biscotti.
