The Scene
The interior and decor are reminiscent of an aging version of Denny's. But it's certainly comfortable enough for the crowds of senior citizens, families and those in search of real Cuban food. Besides, you're here for the food--and it's incredible. Service here is friendly and patient, with time taken for explanations of unfamiliar ingredients and suggestions are given freely.
The Food
Cuban sandwiches are done nicely, pressed and crisp on the outside. Stick with the traditional Cubano (ham and cheese), but you'll have to choose from the 11 different varieties. Entrees range from beef to chicken to seafood, but try one of the daily specials--whatever they've got with pork will be terrific. Some top picks include ropa viejo (shredded beef in a tomato sauce with onions and green peppers) and lechon from the specials menu on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (roasted pork). All entrees come with black beans and a mountain of yellow rice.
