The Scene
Attentive servers cater to animated crowds dressed in designer duds. Black-and-white prints, hand-blown glass lights and fresh flowers on each table accent the dining room's dark woods and deep reds.
The Food
Fred's seduces the refined with creative comfort food. Lighter fare includes chilled circular avocado-crab napoleons layered with mango-pineapple salsa, or warm salmon skewers in spicy-sweet glaze. Filling entrees are inventively presented. Pork tenderloin comes on a bed of pickled pineapple and watercress with white-truffle oil, while luscious roast half duckling arrives in berry sauce with mashed potatoes and thick asparagus drizzled with lime butter. Worldwide wine selections range from affordable to exorbitant. Desserts are created by in-house pastry chefs: White chocolate is baked into the scalloped crust of the caramel-macadamia nut tart topped with coconut ice cream, and Fred's chocolate tower is a high-rise of layered chocolate mousse, crowned with dark-chocolate spirals and raspberries.
