The Scene
Tucked away in a shopping center on San Jose Boulevard, India Gate promises to be a wonderfully aromatic experience. The pungent smells of garam masala, cumin and cinnamon assure a lively meal at the hands of the Indian couple who own the restaurant. The servers wear traditional Indian attire and are patient with your questions about levels of spiciness, seasonings and terminology.
The Food
Nibble on a few crunchy pappadum wafers accompanied by a zippy red pepper coulis. Tandoori specialties, like the chicken, tinted red and brought to the table straight from the brick oven are deliciously tender. Curries are equally as succulent with varying levels of spice and flavor. Vegetarian dals are always creamy and golden. The food is fresh and satisfying while the portions promise to leave you sated.
