The Scene
But for the cars whizzing by on A1A, this restored, two-story 1927 Mediterranean Revival house recreates the ambience of the piano bar where Bergman broke Bogie's heart. Moroccan lamps, lazily paddling ceiling fans and ochre-hued, rough stucco walls add cachet. Watch the moon rise over the Atlantic from the terrace or upstairs patio. Young servers are exuberant, friendly and efficient.
The Food
Vividly fresh Mediterranean Rim cuisine satisfies but at times falls short. Delicate raspberry vinaigrette flounders on sharply seasoned hearts of palm. Spicy Thai coconut mussels are superb, but bland duck galantine needs an aspic glaze or savory sauce enhancement. Moroccan charmoula, a pungent concoction of lemon, garlic and cilantro, is nowhere to be found on grilled sea bass over fluffy but bone-dry couscous. Pear and ginger-glazed duck and buttery basil chicken stand out. Mascarpone tart with glazed berries is exceptional.
