The Scene
Perched across from a city park right on the Gulf of Mexico, the restaurant's patio is a great place to enjoy the ocean breezes and watch the sun slowly transform palms across the street from green to screaming pink. On a hot Friday night, patrons jam its homely plastic tables--families with babies and toddlers, seniors, teens with their parents and singles hanging at the bar. Inside, the restaurant has a clean, simple look, with gray tile and bright pastels, accented by unclothed wooden tables and unpainted driftwood.

The Food
Order standards like grouper sandwiches and burgers if you must, but Guppy's does so much more: gourmet jumbo mushroom caps, stuffed with baked blue crabmeat; sashimi tuna spring rolls, and as a special, an excellent red snapper sauced with a complex sweet pepper concoction. Best dish honors go to the crabmeat quesadillas, served with fresh fruit, cilantro cream and raspberry jalapeno pepper jelly, while the homemade, buttery delight called apple walnut upside-down pie is exquisite.
