The Scene
How many restaurants could pull off a karaoke lounge, live piano music and sophisticated Chinese cuisine in a casual, elegant setting? Not many. But Butterfly does it--with style. The staff can be a bit standoffish, but after a round of ''I Will Survive'' and free hors d'oeuvres at happy hour, it's easily overlooked.
The Food
A list of 30 chef's specialties adds extra choices to the regular menu of more than 100 items. Specials like aromatic lobster tail sauteed in ginger sauce and crispy whole fish with the chef's special sauce make dinner decisions almost impossible. Familiar favorites like egg rolls, fried rice and sweet and sour chicken are given as much care as fancier items. Try the beef lo mein: soft pasta noodles studded with tender slices of beef and vegetables.
