The Scene
Young couples and middle-aged professionals gaze out nearly floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Constitution Plaza and the stunning, all-glass Phoenix Life Insurance building. Contemporary twists on classic Italian dishes are elegantly served in a quiet, open atmosphere.
The Food
Diners munch on artisanal breads, airy bread sticks and tapenade as they await heaping meals. Antipasti on colorfully painted earthenware platters include carpaccio of thin-sliced Angus tenderloin in a nest of arugula, shaved Parmesan and salty, marinated artichokes. Diced tomatoes, bitter black-olive paste and artichoke hearts crown garlicky bruschetta. The veal chop is lacquered in smooth mushroom jus and sided by uncomplicated sautéed spinach. Lightly battered, tender fried calamari, jumbo shrimp, sea scallops and rounds of zucchini complete the satisfying and greaseless fritto misto that needs no dipping sauce. Vanilla pastry cream oozes out of the profiterole smothered in light ganache. Traditional tiramisu makes diners wonder whose Italian grandmother is hiding in the kitchen.
