Diners who can't shell out the big bucks at the chef's chichi restaurant Renaissance choose this bistro, which has about 70 seats in the main dining room and 20 more at the bar. Warm lighting and simple wood decor create a cozy dining experience, marred only by snooty servers. The bistro makes hearty traditional French food; house specials include steak frites, duck cassoulet, braised short ribs and exotic ''weird foods,'' such as sweetbreads.
