The Scene
Colorful modern paintings and framed photos of regulars decorate this casual, calming spot. Couples and families sit at wood tables, enjoying quiet conversation, while folks at the bar chat up sushi chefs about the fresh fish displayed in front of them. The waitstaff, which provides team service, helps inexperienced diners--often beginning with, ''How adventurous are you?''
The Food
Classic and signature spins on Japanese seafood line a several-page menu. For starters, the sunomono salad sparkles with juicy crab shredded on a mountain of thin cucumber slices bathing in rice vinegar. Chunky Japanese cucumbers give a crispy crunch to the marinated-salmon roll--each over-sized bite filled with creamy avocado and crowned by a lime sliver. Grapefruit adds a citrus kiss to smoked hamachi tataki: a tongue- and eye-pleasing specialty dressed with decadent yuzu truffle sauce and paired with a delicate, diced avocado mold.
