The Scene
Reminiscent of a New England summer spot, this casual bistro's cream-colored walls are lined with tastefully framed black-and-white photographs. White tablecloths cover the snug banquettes, which reside under a large octopus-style chandelier. Cosmopolitan couples and special-occasion diners are served by crisp-collared servers well-versed with the small menu.
The Food
Like it's late predecessor, Chloe, this hip eatery proffers a monthly menu of market-fresh cuisine. Lightly grilled foie gras melts beautifully and pairs well with its off-sweet cherries and thick gingerbread pudding accompaniments. Simple-sounding stuffed chicken leg is actually a wondrous accomplishment: Its flavorful, tender meat is filled with finely diced Serrano ham and vegetables. The sinfully rich risotto is as decadent as the macaroni and cheese studded with ham hocks, but takes a sophisticated turn, also blending sweet uni and succulent shrimp. A salty-sweet juxtaposition of caramelized apple topped with creamy St. Agur blue cheese is a fabulous finale.
