The Scene
Taking its name, the American Indian word for ''hummingbird,'' from a nearby mountain, Restaurant Umunhum is the wondrous creation of chef Michael Miller. With its hip neo-industrial interior design and pretty showcase wine room, Umunhum could be the most attractive restaurant in the Almaden neighborhood. It's hip and cool, and it's a great spot for dates. On the downside, the music can be a bit loud.
The Food
Umunhum serves fancy, upscale plates of New American cuisine livened up with subtle Pacific Rim twists. For starters, go with the vegetable and tofu spring rolls or the grilled flatbread served with Florida rock shrimp. For an entree, try the fantastic paper-wrapped wild salmon served in curry coconut broth on red rice with bacon. The sirloin of lamb is stuffed with a tasty mixture of currants, walnuts and feta cheese.
