The Scene
Located in the Pavilion, across from the San Jose Rep, this casual restaurant is equally popular for business luncheons and pre-theater meals. The colorfully painted décor is spotted with glass chandeliers, bamboo plants and decorative vases. Patrons dine at regular tables or take their shoes off to relax in the sunken khantoke seating area.
The Food
The menu features the traditional Thai classics served in large portions. Start with the deep-fried veggie combo plate, crunchy spring rolls and moist sweet potato wedges artfully seasoned with coconut flakes. The beef satay, sliced thin and served with a sugary, chunky peanut sauce, is a popular item. One of the best curry dishes is the chicken Panang: moist breast meat in a zesty red curry mixed with rich coconut milk and whole basil leaves. The pineapple fried rice, served in the fruit's prickly shell, is dense with still-crisp vegetables and bits of tofu.
