Message from Schroeder's Cafe

When Henry Schroeder opened the doors of Schroeder's Restaurant in 1893 he started a tradition that has spanned over a century in San Francisco. The devastating earthquake and fire that bolted through San Francisco on April 18, 1906 destroyed the restaurant?s structure, but not its spirit. In April 1997, Jana and Stefan Filipcik, immigrants from the Czech Republic, bought Schroeder's. They come from Reichenberg, a part of Germany prior to World War II. By adding light side dishes, fish and vegetarian meals, they are proud to continue the family tradition of this special place in San Francisco. ***Please see our website for a complete history and for our polka dancing schedule and Oktoberfest dates!***

Generous portions of authentic German food and culture define this Financial District eatery.

In Short
Operating in various locations within the city since 1893, this restaurant has a long history of serving hearty Bavarian dishes to downtown diners. In a dining room punctuated by Herman Richter murals, a rosewood bar and decorative beer steins, patrons sup on classic offerings like Weiner Schnitzel, bratwurst, Hungarian goulash and potato pancakes, while the less adventurous stick to American staples like burgers, steaks and grilled salmon. Several meatless entrees on the menu satisfy vegetarians.
