The Scene
Since moving to its Eddy Street digs, this eatery offers plenty of elbow room for bigger groups. Two large dining areas are decked out with comfortable chairs and banquettes, and R&B plays in the background. A walk-up counter near the entrance offers takeout and fresh hot pies.
The Food
The food isn't groundbreaking or healthy, but it's familiar and a good deal, with diners taking their pick of Southern classics served with warm corn muffins and a choice of two sides, like dirty rice, red beans or mashed potatoes with gravy. The fried chicken usually has a good crust and arrives hot, but the white meat can be dry. BBQ ribs are fattier than they need to be; better choices are the beef brisket or juicy fried catfish. Don't miss the delicious sweet potato pie.
