Thai restaurants are about a dime a dozen in San Francisco, but there are a few basic factors that can make the difference between a hit or a miss. Delivery is essential, and the fried spring rolls better still be crisp when they get there. Spice level has to be adaptable--belly scorching for those who know what they're doing and, mild (yet still flavorful) for newbies. And the dining space has to be clean enough that you wouldn't mind bringing guests. Vanida hits all of these marks with a simple, modern, newly renovated restaurant that serves up a long list of authentic Thai dishes--standards like satay and pad thai next to more uncommon options like noodle soup with roasted duck and three-flavors tofu or prawns--that are customizable for any palate. Prices are a little lower than what you'd expect, $7 to $11 for entrees, and there are even better deals to be had with the lunch combos.
