The Scene
The haphazard décor--corrugated metal and brick walls, exposed ductwork, chipped cement floors--never betrays its roots as a converted garage, but this Midtown establishment's popularity among neighborhood hipsters and local musicians is unquestioned.
The Crowd
Capitol Garage features the usual coffeehouse mishmash of scenesters, state workers and students sipping hot lattes and spicy Mexican mochas during the day. But when night falls and the amps are switched on, the crowd becomes younger and hipper as a diverse slate of local bands rock the joint for a cover that rarely exceeds $3.
The Food
Besides an adequate selection of hot, caffeinated beverages, Capitol Garage also has dynamite breakfasts and sandwiches. The Roma features three kinds of cheese, roasted red peppers and marinated artichoke hearts melting between warm foccacia bread.
