In Short
Echo Park is buzzing about its coup in landing chef Josef Centeno (Opus, Meson G), who brings his haute global cuisine (not to mention an L.A. cult following) to an intimate little cafe on Sunset. During lunch, pierced and tatted Eastside hipsters lounge under the sidewalk market umbrellas to get a taste of Centeno's famous ''bacos''--a taco-like sandwich stuffed with ingredients like pork belly, crispy Japanese eggplant, lamb sausage and chicken escabeche. The evening attracts serious foodies who all cram into the small but artsy 9-table room bathed in cocoa-tones, wood, candles and '70s rock songs. Dinner (mostly under $25) features dishes like yellowtail sashimi with charred leek oil, serrano chile and papaya, and wine-braised pot roast with kumquats.
