In Short
In an abrupt 180-degree turnaround from the moody purple reign of Table 8, chef celebre Govind Armstrong has reopened the space as a more populist hangout that aspires to dish up the best--or at least hautest--burger in town. The crowd of punky shoppers and Melrose locals seem at home among the rock-and-roll tunes, reclaimed wood accents, black leather banquettes and subway tile. As for the menu, there is a custom-blended wood-grilled burger of Black Angus sirloin, tri-tip, short rib and chuck that is humanely raised and hormone-free to boot. Other choices include the Estancia grass-fed beef or free-range turkey burger. Despite its casual-chic veneer, some serious foodie riffing is going on with fried olives stuffed with spicy sausage, short rib grilled cheese with onion marmalade and cheeseburgers with Humboldt Fog, crispy boucheron or purple mustard.
