The Scene
Back in its original location after a decades-long stint across the street, Lawry's look is still familiar--a vast dining room decked with aristocratic paintings and waitresses in prim brown dresses and starched white collars and caps. A perfect venue for tourists and Midwestern transplants to worship at the altar of American beef.
The Food
Huge slabs of prime rib take center stage at this old-school restaurant. High priests of beef from the Royal Order of Carvers, festooned with gold medallions, carve your cut to order from a futuristic stainless steel cart. The beef here is juicy and flavorful. Splash out on the Diamond Jim Brady cut, an extra-thick, 16-ounce hunk of meat, including a rib bone. Dinners come with fluffy mashed potatoes, baked-to-order Yorkshire pudding and whipped cream horseradish.
