The Scene
There seems to be no lull--Monday or Saturday, drinks or dinner. People flock here in loyal droves. But the brains behind the fashionable specs have honed in on Chaya Venice's draw: The art-deco dining room is hip without being rude, and the kitchen delivers solid fare without selling out to trend.

The Food
The hot and cold starter list is too impressive to pass up, particularly the rich lobster enchilada in cilantro cream and the miniature Angus steak with arugula and Roquefort. Chaya's signature pommes frites and rib eye in three-peppercorn butter are dependably good, but the real stars here are Asian-inspired fish entrees like sesame-crusted ahi with shrimp-mashed potato spring roll, barbecued bluenose sea bass with mango-green chili sauce, and the popular miso-soaked black cod, complemented by wasabi pesto and lemon-scented rice.
