The Scene
It's a little loud, crowded and ultracasual, a setting that suits beach bums and stars who appreciate Hama for its high-maintenance sushi with low-maintenance attitude. Minimalist decor finds sake drinkers sitting at a hut-like bar or at sushi bar seats surrounded by made-in-the-neighborhood paintings.

The Food
With sushi on every corner in L.A., it takes a little more than a tuna roll to survive. There's a unique and comprehensive list of sushi selections--purists will find what they're looking for and adventuresome palates can try everything from ankimo (monkfish liver) to flying fish eggs. Most cast the familiar white sheet aside to try the more intriguing rolls, like the sizable fried salmon and asparagus and crab cake with Asian plum and mustard sauces.
