The Scene
The Grafton Hotel's steakhouse is a post-modern jumble of unpredictable materials. Light fixtures resemble stained-glass bug zappers, while plastic tables are juxtaposed with walls of latticed twigs. Padded walls protect glamorous diners from bruising their willowy physiques, should the combination of martinis and hypnotic, electronica mood music induce a swoon.
The Food
Traditional steakhouse dishes are given witty makeovers. A prawn cocktail is spiced up with a vodka-spiked cocktail sauce; the BLT salad is a whimsical deconstruction of the diner favorite with applewood bacon bits, chopped endive and chunks of tomato. The steaks are prime-aged beef, including rarer cuts, such as a deeply flavorful 35-day, dry-aged New York strip and a tender, bone-in Kansas City filet. With eight sauces and four rubs on the menu--including a sweet, homemade Worcestershire, an earthy cider-sage sauce and a tangy blue cheese crust--you can doctor up your steak any way you like.
